Fun Monday

Today is the 1st anniversary of Fun Monday. Now, obiviously I haven't been participating for a year, but congrats to those who have! This seems to be a wonderful way to make friends with people. If you aren't participating, you should!

Now, Vickie is our host this week. This is what are assignment is...

For those of you who did NOT post a picture of your view from your front door, then your assignment is to post a view from your front door. To do this you stand in your doorway looking outside and take a picture. That simple. We (I) want to see what you see when you look out your front door.

I have to say, this is going to be a pretty boring post for me. There is actually not much scenery from my front door...Here we go...

This is the view looking straight out the front door. You see the road that runs by our house. This road has become more and more travelled as there have been more houses and subdivisions added. I remember when there wasn't much activity on the road at all. On the other side of the road there is a big tree stump. This used to be a huge old oak tree. There were actually 2 of them at one time. I hate it when a tree has to be cut down. Behind the stump, you can't really tell, but there is railroad tracks. When I was little, trains came through many times a day. Now we hardly ever see one, a couple times a week at most. Behind the tracks is a lumber mill. This was owned by former Tennessee state senator, Jerry Cooper.

This is the view from our front door looking to the left. This is Wayne's Body Shop. He has only been there for the past few years. This was where the other huge oak tree was standing.

This is the view looking to the right. Directly behind where that light pole is there used to be a house. You may be able to tell the remnants of a driveway to the left of the little dogwood trees. Our neighbor was Mr. Jess. I don't remember what his last name was. They tore that house down after he died. I don't remember how long ago that was, but it has been a while. In the very right-hand corner of the picture you can see a building. This is a meeting hall for the church that sits beside our house. They bought all the land that you see in these pictures after Mr. Jess died. We actually had our wedding reception there. It isn't the prettiest building, but a great location!

Hurray! Someone other than me with not a whole lot to look at but what used to be there...lol.

Great pics and what a lot of great room for the kids to run.

Hey, join the club with a not too inspiring view from your front door! Really though, you are lucky (I think) in that you don't seem to be breathing down your neighbor's necks which is nice..lots of space! I think it's actually a pretty nice view!

Except we have snow, your picture reminds me of my neighborhood, one ready to be inundated by subdivisions.

Hey Michelle. I love the photos and, even more, the stories behind the photos. How long have you lived in your house?

i bet you miss those big old trees.

i agree with swamp angel--nice to not have neighbors pressing too close. i hope the subdivision doesn't grow too quickly.

What's really nice is your place doesn't feel crowded, plenty of room to roam.

I'd have to plant some trees nearby...it's always fun to chart how long you've lived somewhere based on how big the trees grow from year to year.

Aw Michelle, I was just admiring those million dollar cheecks on Miss Abigail from her place by the comment line. How cute. Looks like you're managing to keep wide-open play spaces for a time. Does having a church as a neighbor make you feel guilty when you sleep in on Sunday morning. . .smile?

There's a lot to be said for not being hemmed in with lots of buildings, or is it that we can't see all the other houses that you mention! It's also very interesting to hear the history.

Glad your camera was working. *whine, cry, throw tantrum!*

I think open space is wonderful. Each person should have a choice of the big city or in the country. I for one get claustrophobic and need the space. Plus I don't get a lot of sales calls - well, not since that last little incident... but that was all cleared up and the charges have been dropped... but anyway, you get my drift.... happy Monday! You have some fantastic open spaces there - kids today don't have enough open spaces to run and play in - You have a great view!

You have a lot of open space around your house!! It is beautiful and I bet it is more so in the spring when it is all green!!

You have a lot of space to enjoy.

Is the lumber yard still in production?

I'd love to not have anyone living next door, or across the street. Someday...

Granted, it may not be spectacular, but it's peaceful, and that rates just as highly, specially since you aren't tripping over your neighbours.

Gotta love that wide open sky!

I'm certainly not looking at anything too exciting out my front door - my neighbors house.

Have a great week.

Such great open spaces...liked the stories with your pics

always sad to see the mighty trees fall. Plant another one!!

Also sad to see the wide open spaces get clogged with more housing developments.

Enjoy your space while you have it.

Plenty of space for kids to play and no neighborhood disputes.

It's nice that you have so much space around you! I would not like to live in a place where I was all squished in with the neighbors on both sides!!

Lots of space and quiet streets. You can't beat that.
